Access Statement for Rothay House
Introduction
We aim to cater for the needs of all visitors in our home based 6 bedroom bed and breakfast.
The following statement is a summary of our provision. If you have any specific questions please feel free to call us and we will endeavour to help.
Pre-Arrival
There is a bus stop on Kelsick road, second right after us and about 2 minute walk. There is a frequent bus service.
Main train station at Windermere 10/15 minutes away by car, also bus service runs from there.
There is a Local taxi service that has accessible taxis if required; we can make a booking for you.

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities
On arrival to the property there is entrance gate, this is open 24 hours when we are open.
Marked parking bays, room for 8 cars. 2 keep clear signs to allow for turning. Also these must be kept clear as I am Retained Firefighter.
The surface is level, flat and gravel.
We can assist guests with luggage.
The town centre is about 5 minutes walk from Rothay House.
There is a bench by the main steps.
Car park is well lit at night.
Main Entrance & Reception
There are 9 steps up to the front door 20cm high, also hand rail on the right hand side. 1 step into the hall way 143cm high. Help can be given up the steps.
The front door is always locked but we do have a push button bell 143cm high. Entrance and hallway well lit at night.
The door is 33cm wide, the hall way is small and 1 metre by 1 ½ metres.
Public Areas – General (Internal)
The house is upside down, 5 rooms on the ground floor and 1 room + breakfast room on first floor.
There are 7 steps down to the ground floor and 7 steps to the first floor 74cm wide 25cm high and 18cm deep
Our corridor is 87cm wide and has good colour contrast also well lit.
The covering on the stairs and corridor is short pile carpet.
There a further 2 steps to rooms 4 & 5.
A push button bell is also on the first floor143cm high
Public Areas- WC
Bedrooms are en suite but no public WC available.
Breakfast room / Lounge
Breakfast is served in the dinning room on the first floor.
Furniture is flexible and can be moved on request.
Tables have under space of 67cm high by 70cm wide and table height is 76cm.
Chairs do not have arms.
Menus can be provided in large print, we do not have Braille menus at the present time but hope to do so in the near future.
Background music is played in the breakfast room only.
Laundry
We can wash clothes on request, also we can dry any wet gear for you. There is no charge for this service.

Additional Information
Mobile phone reception is generally good
We are able to use the front & our back doors in the need of evacuation; we have censors on each floor the bell rings continuously if evacuation is needed. If you need assistance please notify us on arrival, we will ensure you are evacuated safely e.g. hearing impairment.
We are happy to take delivery of hired equipment. (Please let us know)
We are a no smoking building through out. Smoking is allowed on bench by front steps & on the balcony with door closed
We can put medication/food & drink in our main fridge on request (not available 24 hours)
